Loss Concentration

During menopause, women may have problem of loss concentration. The mind cannot stay in focus on one particular subject and always wanders off from one thing to another. It is not directly related to menopause in particular but arises from the menopause symptoms such as sleep disorders, anxiety and night sweats that are happening at the same time.
Loss concentration can be depressing as women find that they cannot finish whatever they are doing or it just takes longer from usual. The key to maintain focus is to control the mind and it can be done by employing some simple tips.
Try to learn how to say “STOP” to yourself whenever you feel that your mind wanders off from the original intention. Step back and bring your mind to whatever you are trying to focus on. Do this several times and with determination, you will soon find it easier to maintain focus.
After a while, if you feel that the loss concentration is getting worse, if possible, try to switch doing something different to make the most of your time. For example, if you find it difficult to keep reading a book, get up and do some house work that will need to be done anyway.
Routine chores such as washing and cleaning are best done at times or loss concentration as focus is not so much needed doing something that you have been doing almost everyday. When you feel that the enthusiasm is coming back, you can always return to the book and continue from where you left.
Do not stress yourself and be smart in choosing which task is best doing at any given time. Keep a journal and keep track of your feelings. If you can find a pattern when the loss concentration is most severe, you can fill that time with task that does not need much focusing. Reserve tasks that need you to concentrate most during times at which you are physically and mentally fresh.
Add variety to whatever you are doing also helps to combat that loss concentration. For example, if you are reading and losing focus, get up and walk for a while to boost your blood circulation. If you like, get up and go treat yourself to a refreshing herbal tea. Keeping both the physical body active can also help the brain to maintain its effectiveness.
Although loss concentration is usually not a major problem, you may want to find out treatments that are available especially if you are also having memory decline as the body ages. Herbs such as ginseng and gingko biloba are two examples that may be beneficial to improve loss concentration. Look for treatments that are targeted to memory loss as it can also help alleviating the loss concentration problem.
You should also try to sort out the other major menopause symptoms if you have any. Sleep disorders, night sweats, depression can take a toll on the body and can affect the mind. You may find out that by managing the other symptoms, your loss concentration problem will subsides as the body is more energized and fresh.
